One of the most touching parts of my entrepreneurial journey has been learning about the meaningful organizations in Edmonton that set out to improve the lives of others, improve our community, give back, and overall make the world a better place. When people connect over a cause and work together big accomplishments can be made and it is very special to be a part of.
Back in December, I was introduced to a not-for-profit called My LuvPak. The initiative of this group is to rally individual, corporate, and government involvement to fund and distribute unique backpacks designed to meet the needs of every child coming into care, off the streets, or being hit by overwhelming poverty. They aspire to provide joy, hope & comfort to all children affected by these circumstances by providing them with a LuvPak filled with hand-picked belongings.
I had the opportunity of working with My LuvPak Edmonton as the event planner on Giving Luv, their fundraiser and launch event, held on February 14th. With a stellar line up of musicians including The Melisizwe Brothers, Terrell Edwards, Tea G, Masha, and Enoch Attey, we had a room of over 100 people celebrating Valentine’s Day alongside friends and family, while raising funds for local children in need of a little luv and normalcy.
Our venue sponsor, West Side Acura, allowed us to take over their showroom and fill it with all things red, black, hearts, and sparkle! All elements were on brand including the large signs acknowledging sponsors, welcoming guests, and letting everyone know how they could support the initiatives of My LuvPak.
We had a spread of delicious food for guests to snack on all evening, and the energy that filled the room with our talented musicians was exceptional. There were three tables filled with silent auction items, guests could buy raffle tickets and enter to win auction items of their choice. I am so proud to say that the event raised enough money to build 86 brand new LuvPaks to distribute to local children in need.
I am so grateful to be involved in such meaningful work and to connect with Edmontonians who truly want to make a difference in our world. The fulfillment I receive from these experiences is immeasurable.
